Let's hear from our Franchisees
Back in 1996 when I applied for 14 jobs in one day, I had an interview with one of them called Minit Australia. Being from the bush I had no I idea what Mister Minit was? Arriving for the interview, I found a man (Ross Stewart) in a funny red coat (I thought no way am I going to wear one of those). I had to choose between two full time positions. And that was the day I took "Mister out of Mister Minit'. Still to this day I get "Oh hello Mrs Minit. Is your husband in today? Is the man coming in today?" My achievements are due to self discipline, doing the right thing, do a job once and do it well. To be given the opportunity in Franchising has secured my future as a business owner. It has also allowed me to grow and develop into a successful female today.
I first began working for Minit with another franchisee five years ago, which gave me great exposure to the obligations and rewards of a Minit franchisee, and sparked a desire to have my own Minit franchise. After working for the company I began implementing steps to become a franchisee.
During the past year I became the owner of the Minit franchise at Riverlink Shopping Centre in Ipswich, QLD. I have seen significant business and personal growth, culminating in winning the Minit Total Service Satisfaction award for 2008-09.
Why did you choose this franchise?
I chose this franchise to provide stability and excellent customer service, enhancing the Minit offer. The franchise also enhances the satisfaction I have received over the years working for Minit and provides my family with stability for the future.
What were your expectations when you started?
When I began the franchise, I did not expect there to be a great difference from being a store manager. I have since found this to be untrue, both positive, such as wanting to do a greater service for the customer; and negative such as sleepless nights wondering how the current economic Climate has/will affect my business.

Mister Minit complies with the Franchising Code of Conduct and will provide a Disclosure Document, copy of the Franchising Code of Conduct, and copy of the Franchise Agreement at least 14 days prior to the franchisee committing to enter into a franchise agreement. It is strongly recommended that you seek independent accounting, business legal advice prior to making a binding commitment to enter into a franchise agreement.
What support do I need to run my franchise?
From a trading and operational perspective, Minit as the franchisor would be looking to provide you with support and a proven system. From a bookkeeping and tax perspective you should consult an accountant to ensure that your regulatory obligations are met.
Your accountant should be able to provide you guidance regarding simple book keeping packages that are available. You may also need to engage employees to assist you to operate the business.
How much money do I need to buy a franchise?
The initial up front establishment costs principally consists of a small one off fee, stock purchases and the costs of obtaining your own professional advice. You will also need to provide a bank guarantee securing performance of your obligations (including payment obligations) under the franchise agreement. Can I sell my franchise?
A franchisee can sell its franchised business, but may only do so in accordance with the procedure set out in the franchise agreement. Minit must approve any sale and will only do so if the sale is to someone who has the requisite skills and satisfies Minit's other criteria for franchisees. (All franchisees must be accredited to Diploma of Excellence standard).
What happens at the end of the franchise term?
At the end of the term the franchise ceases. In general terms it would be the intention of Minit to enter into another franchise agreement with the existing franchisee subject to mutual agreement. However this is entirely at Minit's discretion. Entering into a new franchise agreement will also be dependent on the willingness of the landlord to provide another lease under satisfactory commercial terms.
